Figure of 8 production, in collaboration with the KKNK and Suidoosterfees. Supported by NATi, the Festival Enterprise Catalyst (FEC) and the Jobs Fund.

Die een wat bly/The one who stays is part dream, part testimony. Using the company’s personal memories as a starting point, it sketches the relationship between mothers and their sons. It is a combination of dance and drama that revolves around the narrative of an artist who travels back to his childhood. After a dancer’s mother dies, he strolls through the flashes of his memories, as well as the imagined secret life of his mother, to come to terms with his past, his identity, his family and his future. Dance and physical theatre are supported by text to expose loss, and the special and intricate relationship between mothers and their sons on the road to healing.

Most recently the productions was nominated for 6 KKNK Kanna Awards.

' Watching it is like slipping into a dream; when I saw it at Suidoosterfees, I was buoyed, invigorated, heartbroken, and genuinely carried away. The closest I’ve come to describing how it made me feel is to say that it was like being inside a René Magritte painting, a surreal universe where memory, dreams and the subconscious slip, slide and sometimes collide with reality.' - Keith Bain

'Unforgettable theatre experience, so delicate and memorable.' - Anina Lundie, DCES: Creative Arts (GET), Directorate: Curriculum GET, WCED

'I couldn’t resist catching it a second time and it confirmed my initial instincts that all the elements just flowed together seamlessly to present perfect theatre. I could easily watch it again … and again… and again.'- Diane de Beer, De Beer Necessities
